About this winery

Orval Brewery, located in the Abbey grounds, was created in 1931 to finance the huge reconstruction project at Orval. From the outset, the brewery employed salaried workers, including the first brewmaster, Pappenheimer, who created the recipe. True to its bitter, fruity character, Orval beer has become a benchmark in the highly sought-after world of authentic Trappist beers.

Product notes

A rather light beer in the world of Trappist beers. Orval jeune offers a bouquet of fresh hops, with a fruity note and pronounced bitterness. It has aromas of toast, spices (coriander) and citrus (orange, lemon).

Production notes

Orval beer is characterized by a top-fermentation process and a long maturation period, giving it a complex, fruity taste, a subtle harmony of roundness and bitterness. It is based on specific, highly aromatic hop varieties linked to Orval's first brewmaster, a native of Bavaria.
