About this winery

Le Clos Saint-Jean is a family estate located in the commune of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the heart of the southern Rhône Valley vineyards. Production notes

Hand-picked. Grapes destemmed. Partial crushing depending on the vintage. The vats are délestées, i.e. the juices are removed from the container and put back either at the bottom, sheltered from the air, or at the top, in search of oxygenation as required. This method enables us to gently extract the noblest tannins with deeper substance, and to emphasize a complex aromatic palette. Vatting lasts 35 days in concrete vats, with temperature control throughout. Grenache is aged exclusively in concrete vats for 9 months. The other grape varieties are aged in barrels for a further 9 months. Bottling is carried out only on fruit days according to the lunar calendar. We use light filtration.

Tasting notes

Appearance: A deep, brilliant ruby color. Nose: Aromas of cherry, ripe red fruit, with floral notes and a touch of stone. Palate: A fresh, fruity attack, followed by a fine tannic structure. The tannins are fine and well integrated, offering a silky texture. Flavors of tart berries, dried flowers and light minerality. Food & wine pairing: Pairs well with red meats, game, stewed dishes and strong, mature cheeses.
