About this winery
Château de la Gardine is a family estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Three generations of winemakers passionately craft wines renowned for their authentic expression of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir and their ageing potential. Overlooking the Rhône, Château de la Gardine's vines surround the winery and are planted on typical Châteauneuf-du-Pape soils: limestone, sand and rolled pebbles. In 1963, the estate expanded northwards, acquiring vines in the Rasteau and Côtes-du-Rhône Villages...

Production notes
Hand-picked in crates. Rigorous sorting, de-stemming, partial blending of grape varieties; low-temperature pre-fermentation maceration before alcoholic fermentation, followed by malolactic fermentation. Aged in stainless steel and cement vats.
Tasting notes
Colour : A deep garnet-red color with violet highlights. Nose: Notes of blackcurrant, violet, blackberry, licorice. Evolves after a few years' cellaring into aromas of prune stone fruit and leather. On the palate: Full-bodied and generous, with tight, elegant tannins. In time, it will evolve towards more complex aromas of clafoutis cherry and kirsch. Food & wine pairing: Grilled meats, delicately seasoned with herbes de Provence. Lamb shoulder with thyme, grilled chicken with rosemary. It's also an ideal accompaniment to summer meals in the form of tapas and grilled meats. Last but not least, the supple tannins and fruitiness of Rasteau will make it an ideal ally for the usually difficult pairings with spicy cuisine: curry, tagine, etc.
